Chicks are lost in the mail. :( USPS has no idea where they are.

This is an old thread but not a new problem. 2 out of 5 shipments don't arrive on time. I am currently awaiting a shipment that I am sure is dead by now. No scanning or anything. I am so sick of this.

I'm sorry to hear about your shipment.

Thank you. The Post Office called me this morning and told me that no chirping was heard from my box that arrived a day later than scheduled. They told me to refuse the box and file a claim which is what I did. The Post Master General called me and told me to call him next week, as if that is going to do any good. It was not my local post office that had the problem, the chicks got held over somewhere in CA. I am so upset knowing that these animals were placed in a box only to die in it. I understand things happen but this has happened to me more times than I would think is normal.

I've only had one shipment of chicks and they got here fine but just reading these stories is enough to make me decide to find chicks locally instead of through an online hatchery. I'm hoping for a few new chicks in the spring and have 2 breeders names to check out. They aren't real close by but are within a 2 hour drive.

Can you find someone local to get your chicks through instead of going the mail route? I don't think I could stand going through that more than once.

There is a hatchery not far from where I live and the local feed store will special order chicks as well. It's difficult because I want certain breeds and my little town doesn't have much to offer.
