The "We received our chicks the week of 2/17, give or take" Club

My first eggs! Top left was 4 days ago, top right two days ago, then bottom two this morning.
I went to let the girls out to free range this afternoon, and found two more! Laying must be contagious, lol.
The first two were on the coop floor, this morning's two were in a nest that I caught my barred rock in. Then one of this afternoon's was in a different nest, and the other was in the same spot on the floor again.
I had assumed it was my barred rock laying on the floor as they (I have 3) got red combs first. Catching her on the nest though.. I don't know! The light egg is a shade of green, so I know it came from one of my EE;'s. The darker brown one doesn't seem to be the right color for a Barred rock though. I also have Buff Orpingtons, Welsummers, GLWs, Delewares, and Speckled Sussex. None of them have exhibited the "squatting" behavior, so can't go by that, and many of the girls are getting red now, so really it's anybody's guess. I was just shocked to have gotten 4 today, one of which was a double yolker! First egg came at 18.5 weeks, and they are 19weeks on the nose today. These pullet eggs are just about the cutest things I've seen, lol. They are so little and adorable!

Yay!!!

I can't wait for eggs! Although my girls are now in with my older girls, so it will be a little difficult to figure out when they start laying and who is doing it.

Wow, congrats! Our Welsummer hen lays speckled eggs too. They are so cool.

I check pelvic bones and vent size if I really want to know if a pullet is laying yet (or if she is close). Their pelvic bones relax and widen so that they eggs can pass.

It seems that every time I take pictures of some of my cuties I get caught up with something and don't get it done

Between kids, new baby chicks hatching, gardening, canning......and the list goes on.

These pics are from a few weeks ago except for the last one is current. That is pretty obvious though because of how huge she is. Posting these makes me want to get more pictures because they grow up so fast. We have rehomed some to friends and there are still more that will be going. We are trying to fine tune so our little flock is as close to just right as possible. Its going pretty good. We got our first 2 pullet eggs this last week. I think its just from the one hen in the last picture. She has been in the box, is squatting for quite awhile now and her pelvic bones are WIDE. We will all be getting baskets full of eggs soon.

Marguerite playing in the Daylilies.

I love this picture, their crests are so big! Lol, at least to me. I've never had birds with such large crests before.
