Need help with bathroom laundry room layout.

We are building a house and don't know what to do with our bathroom/laundry room. My FIL had one of his ideas (not good ones) and put the door in a horrible spot which now is making us have to figure a new layout of the room.

My husband would like one of those 42" depth tub/shower combos. He is decent sized and since we are putting a tub in for our son he decided he would like to use the tub also. I'm not even sure yet if they do have the shower walls for those sized tubs.

I would like the washer and dryer not stacked. I think they would be more useful raised up some and easier on the back. My husband would like them stacked but he rarely does the laundry and is at the perfect height for the dryer.

We just want a small vanity sink with a mirror above it. This is the downstairs bathroom for guests and for our son when he is older to use.

Here is a picture. The window will be a rough 36" wide and there is around 15" of wasted space behind the door. If my FIL would of had the door placed either in the middle or 4" from the wall we would of had more options.

Would turning the door into a pocket or sliding door help with your options? If you are getting an oversize tub/shower, will it fit through the door as it is? If it's not load bearing, just move the small wall and put in a larger door?

The door will be 36" wide. I was hoping my husband would move the door over some more but it would take a lot of work cause of the framing.

The direction the door opens isn't a problem. It would of given us more options if it was only 4" from the wall instead of 15". We could of put the tub/shower or the washer/dryer unstacked along the wall with the door. There just isn't enough room with it over 15". I had planned on keeping the tub closer to the inside of the house cause I was told by someone that builds houses that during the winter the water would turn colder faster. He said it was best put closer to the hall.

It's hard to figure out where to put the tub with three surrounding walls, toilet, vanity, and washer/dryer. Can't put anything in front of the window or in the space behind the door other than shelves. The window is going to be a rough 62" tall.

You did bring up a good question I never thought of. I am not sure how to get the tub in there. Even a regular sized one. The door leads out to a hall that is only 4'2" wide. The entrance is along the wall with the window to the right. It's what the 8' 6 1/2" number is for the middle of the entry door. Not sure if there is enough room to turn the tub through there. We could probably fit it through the window before we put the window in. The room below the bathroom in the picture is the utility room so we can't slide it in through there either.

Our architect (husband's friend) was busy and didn't really help us out much. He didn't really give any suggestions and didn't place the items out to good in the room. He was going through a rough time cause his brain cancer returned so we didn't bother him to much.

I would be tempted to skip the tub and get a shower with a deep base, the ones that can act as a foot soak.

That is deep enough water for a kid to splash in.

Thanks for that idea. I'll look into it. Might be cheaper also and give more floor space.

How about a 100% tiled bath, like walls, no "bath" or "shower" to install also see if a "pocket door" (I think it's called that) is possible (in essence a door that slides into the wall). If you get the front load washer/dryers that are popular now adays (the larger capacity type not the stackable units) I know those can be put on pedistals that are sold seperatly. the pedistals I've seen in ads on TV and what a friend had it had a drawer built in it so you could use it as storage, and many are energy (water/electric and if gas powered gas) effecient.

We plan on tiling the whole house since we are putting radiant floor heating in. The downstairs bathroom we want to do as cheap as possible since our upstairs master bathroom we are going to build a large custom shower. I was almost thinking of putting that stone veneer in for the walls.

My SIL had the Amish build her a base for her washer and dryer that is solid wood with two drawers. It made it the perfect height and very solid. I would love to do the same with ours. I just need to figure out a good layout to do it.

Here are the only layouts I could come up with. The tub is the 60x42 size. As you can see I don't really know how to do the layout. I would rather not have the washer and dryer stacked like the middle layout. I'm not sure if the other ways look alright or not. I've made at least a foot of space on each side of the toilet.
