My Chicken Coop for 5 or 6

I plan on moving them to the big coop at the mid/end of May. Not sure how big they will be by then, but that's when the temp will stay above freezing for the summer here. Will they be big enough then to jump on the perches? Do I need to install a temp ramp for them?

how old will your chicks be by the time they move to the coop.

They will be about 2 months old. I got them March 20 from Runnings and they had just been shipped in that day, so I assume they are a day to three old. I heard they need to stay inside for the first 6 weeks or so, but we still have nights below freezing mid-May, so I thought it best to wait til the end. Think that will be okay?

PS to the ventilation question....yes I did my homework....yes I am going to put the vent on the flat wall where the nesting boxes are....no I am not going to insulate. With the wood and siding on all the sides, shingles on the roof, and sand on the floor, the coop is staying nice and dry and 'un' drafty....That was my goal, so I'm sure they will be fine.

Might want to think about using pine shavings in the winter... sand can get cold and shavings are much warmer.

Not sure how this will look...took it with my phone! But left to right on the top we have Black Betty, Marda Dee, Agnes Jane, Violet Mae, Georgia Ann in the middle and Little Henrietta at the bottom....love my girls already...and their funny personalities!

Realized that I never did post pics of the finished coop. Couple of things- went with no vent. They did fine through the summer with just the open wire door and the hole in the floor. So far they are doing fine this winter- it is very dry here in the winter, so I just covered part of the open door and covered the bottom area with plastic on three sides to keep the snow from blowing in. Here is the coop this summer, before the chicks were moved in. They are all doing awesome by the way- great layers!!! We did loose one chick to the dogs, but such is life. This summer I got five eggs pretty consistently and am down to three a day now that its December. Still plenty for our family!
