Wybar Thread!!!

I just kept a few males from the F1 sex link hatch and bred them next year to pure wyandottes, the barring is the easy part the lacing involves getting 3 genes right, so I concentrated on the lacing first with barring second.

Can dominiques be used in the development of wybars? If so there would be less issue of single combs showing up.

That's one I will leave up to you. Yes by all means the birds will be based on the barring and you are correct single comb should not be an issue, type will be an issue either way. Some purists would say its not a Wybar because the Wybar was produced using a barred rock. So ultimately it comes down to which ever direction you want to go. Combs is an easy matter to fix through test mating later on though.

If you use a male Gold or silver laced  over barred rock hens you will have sex links at hatch. If you go with barred rock male over wyandottes hen you should get all barred birds. Some may some "sort" of lacing some more than others, but regardless will be incomplete lacing at best more like ticking on the tips of the feathers than lacing.

I just started to get really interested in the Wybar projects. I have GLW and Barred Rocks. Just had our first hatch, and based on what I read, they're sex links for now. What is my next step? My roo is a gorgeous GLW and I have GLW hens and Barred Rock hens. One chick hatched with a white dot on top of it's head. Male? I also have some chipmunk looking chicks, some darker than others with more pronounced lines and fluff. Others have softer lines (though definitely noticeable) and almost a grayish color to their fluff. We also had Black chicks hatch. Some with black beaks and black legs, others with yellow beaks and legs. Where do I go from here?

The White spotted chick is more than likely a sex link male. You would keep him and breed him back to pure, laced wyandottes, looking for birds that are barred and showing lacing characteristics. You will have to be prepared to hatch a lot of birds to find what you are looking for in regards to the desired traits. Good luck and have fun.
