With that worm load, there was no chance for the poor guy to heal. Probably was worms that weakened him to the point he injured his leg. I would give him more time to see if he can recover better, now that he's not fighting the parasites.
should I use the wazine on him too or the safe guard again ? wazine only does round worms . I put it in the coops water . so I really dont know if they all got what they needed . I would really like to buy some more safeguard and give it down the hatch but no way I can do this myself . would like to trim their nails and put some ivermectin on them at the same time.
Granny I use a big bath towel when I have to treat my birds & don't have help. If you take the towel & wrap them snuggly they settle down pretty good. Just make sure you don't cover their heads or they can smother. Putting a little scrap of something over their eyes help relax them too. I've got some pretty big roosters & have been able to do them myself that way. I have a nifty little shelf on the outside of one of the runs. Its made to hold a 5 gallon bucket that connects to a watering system. I put my supplies on that, I measure out the safeguard in the syringe before I even go get the bird. I've got a milk crate to sit on so as soon as I catch the bird, I wrap it in the towel, hold it upright between my legs, then dose them. To clip nails I lay them across my lap wrapped in the towel with the birds head sorta wedged up by my arm pit. This gives me both hands to work with. I have also had one bird bleed so bad after snipping her nails & I didn't even clip but a tiny tip. And I couldn't even get any of the bloodstop stuff, flour or corn starch to stop the bleeding. Went to the house, grabbed a potato & nuked it for a couple minutes until it got hot inside. When ready I cut it in half, wrapped each half in aluminum foil so they stayed hot & headed back out to get the bird. The whole dang flock was after her because of the blood. Had to take each nail that was bleeding & stick into the hot potato until it cauterized the ends. Worked like a charm. Have me some roo's that need to have their spurs shortened a little. Going to try the hot potato & pliers method on them. Sorry this is so long
