When I was young, we had some hatchlings in the house when the broody died. One would make so much noise I could not sleep. I went and got it, and took it back to bed, just wanting a few minutes peace and quiet. Of course I fell asleep. Next morning I got up and went to check on the chicks and saw the loud mouth was missing. Knew before I checked what I had done. Poor thing was smothered in my bed. I killed it.

Worst part was mom had told me to be careful and not fall asleep with the chicks.

Today, kill dogs.  I have a dead cat in a box in my house that I have to bury.

, If you are looking for something to protect your birds and your pets, get a shotgun.

And the guns, and rifles, you have to be extremely careful the direction you were shooting. Have to worry about what's behind your aiming at for 100s of yards.

A shotgun, with the correct logo, would be devastating to any type of dog or varmint. Up to 40 yards.

One other thing, I forgot to add. You could also go with a 20 gauge. It may cut down on the effective distance, but much less recoil.
