Hi everyone. Here is one of my young Roos. His name is Koba. He is in my Indonesian type project I’ve been working on… trying to get more gamebird appearance and breed for harder feathers more like in Indonesia. He is a grandson of lees lines mixed with Raven Banko lines. Got his dad from Kendra. Best wishes in all your own projects everyone.
I know everyone breeds for their own things they like. I try to stick to a more Indonesian look, hard feathers and taller stance with the deepest black fibro. You can look at our breeding program on our website.

But only a pure Cemani with FM and the GF modifier will have a black tongue. Even then, you are probably going to have to cull probably 90% or more to get that pure black tongue. Don't be fooled by gray tongues. Gray is not black. The same goes for skin. Gray will grow up to be pinkish as the chick matures.

You must start with a perfect Cemani, not a hybrid and then cull 90% to get the black tongue. A perfect Cemani is one that has two copies of the FM gene and the GF modifier. That can only be found in a real Ayam Cemani, Svart Hona, Ogye, etc. And as the chick with gray skin matures, gray will turn to pink and later red.

Can you explain more to me about the modifiers and how they work?

Not sure if this forum is very active anymore! But if it is, I have a question!

So I have 3 ayam cemani I hatched out of some eggs from a local breeder. She has fantastic birds, black everywhere.
Unfortunately these 3 I have are now 3 months old or so, almost 4. They have perfectly black feet, toenails, feathers, no leakage in the combat or wattles, and as far as my inexperienced eye can tell, have a good body type.
Today I finally picked them up and opened the mouth...only to be very disappointed to see some pale in there. 2 have black on most of the roof of the mouth and gums, but a pale tongue. The other rooster has a much more whitish pale mixed with black. It's clear though, none of them are totally pitch black in there!

So, the question!
If I bred these, is there the possibility of producing good, solid black chickens from ones that have less than perfect black inside their mouths? Could I through breeding and culling eventually get to the point of that black mouth, OR do I need to start again in my little breeding adventure with birds that have totally black mouths? Hard to find such a bird, and even harder to afford it haha. I adore this breed, they are just stunning. I want to do right by the breed though, so not sure how to go about this! Obviously any culls from the group would be sold to pet homes, not breeders so as to not further the bad genes.

I'm pretty new to this whole thing (and the breed for sure haha). I've always admired them, but never had the money to afford them. Finally spoiled myself with a few eggs when I got some marans from the breeder. And I am already in love with the breed! I would be pretty sad to have to get rid of these babies, so would love to hear the thoughts of those more experienced than I!

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
