Hello everyone. I've always wanted to own chickens, but at the beginning I had a home with a beautiful garden. I read that chickens would destroy it. So I gave up on the idea. We moved to the country which was once a farm. We have a blank slate with landscaping (literally) and I'm working chickens into the mix.

This weekend my daughter and I (caregivers to these cute little puffs) went to our local feed store and got ourselves our first set of six chicks. Everyday it seems they learn something new. Just this morning I was upstairs doing paperwork. My husband was downstairs where the chicks are, and I heard a commotion. I asked my husband to go check on them to see what was going on. I guess one of them "found" something and they all wanted it. They are comical and just make you laugh and smile.

What I would like to know is what breed they may turn out to be. They're all girls. I got three black- they have charcoal grey wings and a patch of white (maybe light gray) on they're heads. They are very cuddly, good natured and very curious. The other three look just like the fuzzy yellow peeps. Two of them have a darker yellow double stripe down they're backs with light yellow wings and one of them (we call her Stella- she's the loudest) has a couple shades darker back with the light yellow wings. It's not necessary, I'll still love them, my daughter and I were just curious to what breeds they could possibly be. Any ideas, we're from western MA

Welcome to BYC!

You might post some pics here so we can have a look see. The black ones sound like Black Australorps. The yellow ones could be Buff Orpingtons. But can't be sure without pics!

We do have a What Breed and Gender section here on BYC you can post their pics for some IDing...

The ones with the white spots on their heads sound like Barred Rocks, but pics would help a lot. I think Aussies and BRs are some of the most popular at feed stores along with Rhode Island Reds and Leghorns and Orpingtons.

Just wait till you've been here for a few days and see all the pretty colored eggs that other breeds lay. hehehe Chicken Math!!!!!

Any ideas as to what these might turn out to be? Just curious. Thanks for all your input. :)
