I was so touched by this little video...three hens experiencing true freedom for the first time in their lives...

Very moving. I have rehomed ex-battery hens and it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I would urge anyone who keeps chickens, if they ever get a chance, rehome some. In my experience they do not, as some people would have you believe, pose a risk to the health of your flock as they are vaccinated for every concievable poultry illness. I know they looked 'oven ready' and scrawny but they fill out and feather up beautifully. They will give you such a wonderful sense of satisfaction and achievement as they settle down so well.

I got 5 ex-battery hens two days ago and they look exactly like the ones in the video clip. It was awesome to see them take their first steps. One of the girls needed help to stand at first, but it wasn't too long before she was taking her first steps too. I got them as my other hens are off the lay and instead of going to the shop to get eggs I spent my money on increasing my flock. I have had already had eggs from these lovely ladies. A pity what condition we humans leave the animals who produce for us, once they are no longer deemed "useful".

I totally agree with you...so sad. But as they say, there's light at the end of the tunnel with people like you and others who love chickens that will save a few here and there!

The very best of luck to you and your new hens. You will be glad every day that you took the chance on them and they will be glad every day that there are people out there that really care.
