Chapter One--
"Sahira! Sahira, stay with me!"
Nadia crouched over her dying friend. Tears, shimmering in the setting sunlight, glistening, wet, on her silver-furred cheeks. "It-It's gonna be okay," she added, her voice clearly edged with fear and desperation. She was lying in a pathetic attempt to boost her confidence.
But her friend was surprisingly calm, even though Nadia was failing miserably at providing uplifting thoughts.
"N.. Adia..." Sahira croaked. Her voice sounded crackly, like broken cracker edges being rubbed together. She let out a moan, already unearthly sounding.
"Take.. Hazel," she choked. "Keep him.. Safe. F-from.. Harm." Her lips curled back as she gagged loudly, and then coughed a raspy, hoarse sounding cough. The cough slowly but surely turned into a gag as she spat up a trickle of blood.
Nadia had nodded, for she couldn't speak, for the lump in her throat. But Sahira had seen her nod.
"Nadia. You were always my best friend.. I will.. Never.. Forget you.." she finished. No sooner had she than a heavy, hollow gasp escaped her maw, as though her soul, itself, had escaped her. Her body grew still, her eyes dull.
Sahira was dead.
There was an abundance of grave silence, save for the wind, which moaned and lamented, as it whipped about the gathering of wolves, tousling their fur as it did.
And then there was just one sound offered. A plaintive, pathetic, confused, "mewl?" It was Sahira's single, auburn pup.
The pup Nadia was now entitled to protect. She had promised to do so. Even though she had to now protect him from Jay, who was like the Devil himself. She would surely be killed if he found her with the pup in her possession..
Though Nadia could completely disown the pup and abandon it, she knew, in her heart of hearts, that she could never do so. She stared at the pup for a long time, with an unreadable expression on her maw.
Then, in one decisive motion, she strode forwards.. And plucked the pup off the ground, tucking it to her. She was still lactating from stillborns earlier that week. She would feed and raise this pup as her own.
This will be easy, she thought. After all, I can just stay here and raise him. I don't have to go back to Jay!
But was she ever wrong in her thoughts, as she would soon learn. The Alpha of the pack strode forwards. His expression was grim and he looked as though what he was about to say would kill him as much as it would surely horrify her, but alas, this had to be done.
He opened his mouth to speak.

Like where I started in my story? This is kind of based on the plot with Jay and Nadia, with some edits and they are wolves.
Anyways, you wont find out why she has to protect Hazel or who killed Sahira until the very end of this story. Hope I don't kill ya! LOL!
