Hi. I am going to order 10 Barred Rocks and 14 Red Stars.(chicks). I know that I have to keep them in a brooder for the first 6 weeks. Is it ok if I have both breeds in the same brooder? Thank you, Aaron.
(ps. sorry if I'm not using the proper lingo! I am new)

No problem with different breeds. You just want to make sure that they are all about the same age and that they aren't over crowded. Welcome to BYC! Good luck!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new chicks! It is fine to brood different breeds of chicks together, if they are the same age and general size it usually is not a problem. You might like to check out the BYC Learning Center, especially the raising chicks section, it has lots of nice articles on chicken keeping, the https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Welcome to BYC!

Absolutely! You can brood all breeds together. The birds don't know the difference. Just make sure you have a large enough brooder for all these babies. You will need at least 1/2 square foot per bird. More if you can afford it. This will give you space for the heat and cool spots long the sides and at one end. You will want to keep your heat on one side and the food and water on the other so they have to leave the heat to get to the goods.

You might want to do some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of good reads on all aspects of keeping poultry, and an article on raising your new brood....
