I jus set my eggs for the hatch-a-long. I only added bout 40 cc of water and my humidity is at 45%. Im hoping it will drop n a few hours. I knw it takes a day or so for temps and humidity to settle. Anyone got suggestions for dry incubation?

Add a couple of dry paper towels to your incubator, they'll absorb some of the humidity. I'm having to do the same thing, it's been raining cats and dogs and is super foggy out. Completely dry my humidity was still at 40%, which isn't bad, but I like it to be somewhere around 25-35. One paper towel set everything right. Good luck

Dry incubation means dry. Don't add any water until first pip. There's plenty of natural humidity this time of year, it sounds like. No added water needed.

As for the bit of water and humidity now, since you just set the eggs today, go on in and wipe up the water. You'll do no harm to the eggs at all.

Here's to hoping you have a great hatch.

agree, keep it dry! you can sop up the extra water carefully without getting eggs wet.

if your humidity is still too high, you can use dry rice to absorb water and lower humidity. good luck!

Thanks evryone. My curreny temp is 99.3 and my humidity bis 29%. Got two paper towels n there. Whn i candle in a few days im gonna dry up wht little water i added.

Hi, like you I added water at Day l....went from 99.5/45% ...to day 18 -99.5/24% - put IN red plugs, removed egg turner....did not open incubator at all, do not candle last days 100 temp/70-75%...I have a LG bator...not expensive.. put eggs in egg cartons and they hatch in them (less mess)...so far 16 out of 30 have hatched...will keep plugged in for 3 more days..will see....good luck and have fun.. next time I will do the NO WATER and DO NOT OPEN incubator....must say I am satisfied with results so far, many experience less... 100 percent would be great but even a hen does not hatch 100% Ha.

I hve the lg bator to wth a fan. I do candle a couple times during the 18days to dicard any tht are not developing. Gonna try to get the water out today with a syringe so I dont hve to raise the lid. Thanks for all the comments.

please make sure to open the plugs/vents during hatching. the chicks begin breathing air during hatch, if they run out of oxygen it can be fatal. (personally I do not use the vent plugs ever)
