BROKEN EGGS IN BROODY NEST

Well 5 babies hatched. One is still in the egg but I think it's gone. I lost a baby yesterday during hatch when I intervened too much. :( Dumb move, I got nervous but I shouldn't have tried to help. A few days prior to hatch, one of the eggs was kicked out and was cold.
When I opened it, the baby gone but was developed so I'm not sure why momma kicked it out. So out of the 8 that developed, I have 5 babies. I'm pretty happy with this outcome for my first broody momma.

Thanks,
They ended up hatching 4 babies, one pullet and THREE cockerels.

I am going to have to re-home them soon as they are crowing already!
My Jersey Giant Penny is broody again and she is down to 2 eggs out of 5. Both eggs have external pips! If they dont make it I will know she must be doing something to them because I have found too many developed chicks dead beside her. She is a great mom with chicks adopted. But none of her eggs have made it out alive so far.
I just had a blue cochin hatch 1 chick out of 7. I think she smothered one and I dont know what happened to the rest as they got cracked somehow. She was separated from the rest of the chickens as Penny is also now. I sure hope these hens are not killing the chicks. I read that they sometimes do.

I also have 2 more broodys, they are bantams so I will see how they do. I would also hate to think that something is coming into the coop and cracking them like a rat or squirrel. We have had a problem with both but since I have been putting poison out for the rats I havent seen any for a while. The squirrels I see all the time and really hate them now. We also had to kill a rattle snake last night, it was right next to the dog run. Last year 2 rattlers got into the dog run and killed one of my Yorkies.

I would go ahead and move her and clean up the broken egg if there is one. Sometimes you just have to. I wouldnt stress too much about it. If you do it carefully they will be ok.
