Neighbor Consent to Have Chickens. Is it Wrong?

During my research in preparation to talk to my city council, I found that a lot of ordinances currently out there require neighbor's consent for you to have a few chickens on your private property. I will leave this requirement out when I talk to the council. But I know our current mayor likes the idea of having all neighbor's consent in my brief chat with her.

How do you all feel about this? I find it a bit ridiculous. I'm not one to talk about civil liberties and such, but why should my neighbors have say in my property rights when it comes to doing something legal? Furthermore, why did my neighbors not get my consent before they got a dogs, or cats, or a pool, or put up a shed, etc? Doesn't this seem contradictory? I'm sure it will come up during the chicken discussion at the city council meeting. If they otherwise agree to an ordinance, but with this stipulation, do I swallow my pride and accept it without argument? Or risk them retracting the idea because of my "stubbornness"? Personally my neighbors are OK with chickens. But what about someone else in the city that has neighbors living with the typical chicken myths, and won't give consent? Seems unfair.

It seems unfair because it is.

You should point out everything you just wrote to them in a non - confrontational manner & try to get them to see how silly it all is.

What a load of fuss over some chickens
