We are getting in the 60s during the day and down to 40, sometimes a little lower during the day. I've got 7 1/2 week chicks, 10 of them, in my laundry room. We have been putting them outside during the day to play. When can they make the leap to the outside coop WITHOUT a lamp? They are starting to drive me a little nuts and I'm sure they don't want to be in their box any longer! If it gets down into the 30s will they be okay?

They should have most of their feathers by now. If they do, they'll be fine. Assuming they'll be dry. I always hate to see my little ones get wet. Not sure if they mind or not...

Yes, they are completely feathered and look like little chickens...I love them but man, 19 chickens in my laundry room is starting to be too much :) Thanks for the reassurance. They will have a nice coop to be in so they should be able to stay dry and out of the wind.

Been there - just two days ago put my 5.5 weekers out.....all 22 of them. I'd had the heat lamp off them for a while, and kept the window open unless it was blowing hard - getting them used to chilly is one thing - dumping frigid drafts directly on them is something else again. It's been snowing here off and on, lows in the mid to high 20s and daytime highs stretching hard to get into the upper 40s'. They are thriving! Everyone eating well, drinking well, running in and out of the pop door, and I can almost hear the rest of the their feathers coming in. Now, they were very well feathered - don't want anyone thinking I tossed 22 downy little chicks out into a blizzard or anything.

But I was so happy to get them outside - until I realized that means I now have to hire a bulldozer and get the dust out of Ken's office before he can use it again.

No sense cleaning his office until you're SURE you have enough chicks to get you through until next year.

When you are done with the bulldozer, can you send it my way? I still have 9 more chickies to raise up..they are about 3 weeks now. Hopefully though they can move out earlier if spring ever comes...I'm so tired of this cold weather!!!
