Cedar Creek Hatchery - KEEP AWAY!

My horrible email adventure for what was to be Brahma eggs Eddie with a single hatchling (the only 1 that developed after Day 5). She has slate colored clean legs! Brahmas are to have yellow, feathered legs. They can't even keep their eggs organized.

Anyone feel like reviewing a letter to the editor of their local papers?

Holy smokes!! Now I know what these folks were doing earlier today when they didn't answer the phone. They must have been writing obscene (and horribly misspelled) e-mails to customers. Glad I saw this thread. I was about to order something from them. Thanks for saving me!!

BTW, anyone know of another place to get Lavender Orps? :/
Chiquey, evening.... Just Fowling Around has Lavender Orps.... I have one.... I bought 8 birds from them at 3-4 months of age... all are doing well... picked them up Aug. 8th.... They are very nice folks... Been to their "Chicken Farm".... Birds are well taken care of... and I would do business with them again... they don't ship live birds but will deliver a couple times a year, in state... You could call them or e-mail them about eggs... I don't think Bro will drive to Georgia.....

Heritage Orpingtons is having a special right now on orp chick packages. Don't know if you're looking for English orps but these are very beautiful birds imported from England. She's not offering eggs yet but will soon. She also has Lavender Cuckoo which I'm considering ordering when she offers the egg. Most importantly, she's a legitimate breeder with many happy customers.

Just saw this thread after I started one of my own on Cedar Creek Hatchery. I am currently using the Better Business Bureau in their part of Michigan to protest what I received. So yes, I am also a burned by Clear Creek Hatchery club member. I ordered 10 black copper maran pullets and 5 dark brahma straightruns. Joe agreed to throw in a couple of black copper maran roosters. I got 19 live chicks (2 were dead and one was so decomposed the box REEKED of death at the Post Office) of a vast assortment of colors from white to blue to cuckoo and brown. NOT ONE BRAHMA dark or otherwise, and only 8 blackish chicks. As the remaining (they were sickly and I lost 4 more) chicks have grown out, they are all sorts of colors and patterns with at least half of them presenting as roosters now a month later. Calls to the hatchery went unanswered. Just received the reply from the Better Business Bureau website where the hatchery misrepresented what they sent although they did say they sent black and blue marans originally and five bluebell pullets (which I could care less about).
So, at the risk of sounding redundant. AVOID THIS HATCHERY. They are CROOKED. Gives all the others a bad name. Just this year I have used Ideal, Meyer and Welp all to good results....
So where is a good place to get black copper maran pullets next year? I am in Wyoming. I was wanting to start a breeding program for dark colored eggs for the local farmers markets.
Wish I had checked this board before ordering.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If you go to the Buy Sell forum under either day old chicks, or if you prefer to save money & incubate your own, hatching eggs are also sold. I've had friends buy from Papa Brooder (I think that's the name) & have been very happy with their Marans. I'm seriously thinking of getting the Lavender Marans from him myself!

Thanks! I will check it out. I don't much care for incubators, however I do have some cochin hens that I can use for hatching eggs in the spring that might be a good solution.

Looks like their webpage is down. I guess they're out of business.

I ordered 10 Golden Cuckoo Marans chicks. Got 11, one was DOA, no problem. Customer service was alright. However, it turns out all my Cuckoo Marans are male except one. Now I know that they are can be sexed at birth, so I'm thinking I got ripped off.

Hello all! I usually only post positive reviews but I have waited almost a year to see how this would play out. I ordered from Cedar Creek in Feb of 2014. Paid in full at the time of order. I was told the chicks would be sent in March, emailed at beginning of March to get an approximate date. A week later was told 3rd week of March. 3rd week came and went with no correspondence from them. Called 4th week in March to see what was up. Got an email saying winter was rough and it would be mid-April. I understood and thought "no problem" I would have appreciated being kept informed, but I stayed optimistic. Here is what I ordered: 10 Wheaten Marans, 5 Buckeyes, and 5 Narragansett turkey poults. The total was around $240.00 with express shipping. Chicks arrived mid-April, 1 Wheaten chick was dead and one was almost dead. Had the lady from Post Office witness it and sign a statement. I am an experienced hatcher of my own eggs, so brooder was ready to go when I got home. Other Wheaten died 2 hours later. All Buckeyes were fine. Turkeys were fine, but one was white, so not a Narragansett. Called that afternoon to let them know what was going on, didn't get back to me till next day, in which time 2 more Wheatens had died. I asked why I was given a white turkey, they said they didn't have enough to complete order, so threw in what they had. I was told they would give me store credit for chicks that died, as they weren't responsible for chicks the post office kills. EXACT WORDS! So with minimum order, I still have to shell out around $40 to use the store credit. Really? So a week later, another Wheaten dies. So here is how it went for the rest of the year: Gave away the royal palm turkey because I couldn't use it in my breeding program. Of the 4 turkeys left, 2 died at 2 months of age just out of the blue. The 2 remaining were both toms, and one was very very brownish red in parts of tail and wings, so again, not Narragansett. Both of these toms developed severely bowed legs at around 6 months of age. My other turkeys from different breeder did not, so it wasn't a vitamin deficiency. Needless to say, I had to harvest them. So I have 0 turkeys left from them. Of the 5 remaining "wheatens", one has no feathering on the feet and willow legs. hmmm... another one does not have a wheaten pattern and has never grown properly, she weighs 2 lbs at 10 months old. The other 3 barely look like a Marans, let alone the proper pattern and they all lay a VERY, and I can't stress this enough, VERY light brown egg. I will not be ordering from them again, they can keep my store credit. I hope others will learn from my mistake.
