Lost the post I typed and just can't type it all again!
Gold Dust, my BO, screamed out for help last night about 10:30.
Found her and it broke my heart!! I flush her wound with saline solution and tried to rub trip antibiotic on it but it will not stay. I have coloidol silver I put in a dish and soaked cloth and drizzled over wound till I can get the purple spray stuff spoke about by others on here. I am going to TSC tomorrow is there Amy thing else I need to get for her? Any idea how to cover this? I am not sure if this is her skin or meat. I don't see a skin line around the edge but will look again next cleaning. She is resting in a huge box in the living room and has ate a small bite. She drank some after I cleaned her up but any more but I will be sure she does the next time she gets up. Any advice or help would be appreciated by this broken Momma!!! The first sound of her screams my heart stopped as I thought, " Did I lock the girls up?"
Thanks Cindy

Update on Gold Dust....
She drank some about 4:10 but hasn't eaten any more. Cooked her some oats with mashed raspberries and grapes about 1:30 then some tried some eggs just now. She only ate the little bit of oats. Been reading through many many posts and will try to get some aspirin water in her the next time she is up. Hope every one has a blessed day! Cindy

the poor thing! looks like you are doing the right stuff. keep the wound clean and moist, keep her hydrated and warm. try to get her to eat, maybe something with more protein, scrambled eggs? good luck with her

I would try to find some veterycin hydrogel at the farm store, we have Fleet Farm in our area, they have it in a spray bottle in the pet section and they also have some in the horse/cow area, though I thought the stuff in the pet section was likely more what I needed, I have been using it on chicken wounds and it seems to help heal in a hurry, I think it is faster than Neosporin, the stuff is pricey, like 35 dollars for a bottle but it seems to work and the spray makes it easy to apply. I don't cover the wounds unless they are in an area where they are picking at themselves

Gold Dust is in her new quarters and settled in. She went straight to the nesting box and looked it over as to say Oh my comfort', but not my nest from home. I brought in one from the brooding pen that isn't attached. It took her some time to get comfortable and get that new straw in that perfect bowl shape but she finally curled her head around and tucked it in her back feathers and was sound a sleep. I put a heater waist high and backed away so it will keep her warm tonight. Need to get more electrolyte tomorrow. She enjoyed her mealworms today with excitement!
We called the other two girls in to see her and they spoke to her and wanted so bad to go to her but were so unsure of the sunroom. Gold Dust was intently watching them the whole time.

My son just told me he read that possums will eat a hen from it's back end while the hen is alive.

Set a cage trap (they will eat anything; cat food, marshmallows, whatever)...catch and shoot.

Bury deeply and hope he doesn't have any friends.

Harsh but effective (and necessary).

I can't remember what exactly happened? Was the door left open? I'm not trying to rag on you, if that's the case then I don't need to warn you that whatever it was will be back. If it wasn't a simple error such as that, it will be back, be ready.

Subhanalah,
Yes it was my fault. I didn't go out and lock them up. No worries on ragging though! Nothing could be said or done to make me feel any worse then I make my self feel ever time I think of that blood cuddling screaming and have to see her wound ever time. The coop is built against predators because they are all around them. We are ready for them tonight with two cages and some one that will be happy to have them after they flip the trap door. We shall see how many and what we get.

Kazfam,
I wonder if it might have been. I didn't even think of them. I figured raccoon as I saw eyes glowing at me half way up the tree when I shined the light and it climbed higher and looked back as I came up to Gold Dust. It was way up in the tree so figured most likely not a cat. Wonder if they dig deep little holes in the ground. Something has been doing that all over the side and back yard. Hummm research for tonight!! Tell your son thanks for the info and thanks for sharing.
My son put out two wire cages tonight. Used some tuna salad I made last night for food for them. We won't have to shoot as we have someone that will take them alive!!! So thankful for that! The BB gun stays close by as hubby doesn't like the chicken hawks getting too close.
Well, if I can get Gold Dust to eat I will feel sooo much better. I will be researching tube feeding to start tomorrow afternoon if she doesn't show any more interest then she has.

Thanks for all the replays! Helps knowing others are out there for ya!
Have a blessed day tomorrow! Cindy

We had to lock the girls up early tonight so my son could put the cages out before he left. They were not happy at all and they made sure we knew it!

Poor girls!! They will be scared to death when that cage goes off also. I need to make a special treat for them tomorrow!

Csun132...FYI, here is a recent pic my son took near the coop...possums are great tree climbers:
