May Hatch-a-Long!

Today is day 16 of my third hatch! Just candled and will lock down tonight!

First one was a rainbow mix from Alchemist farms (CA), 5 out of 12 hatched; 4 were roos so I'm only keeping the BCM pullet. Hatch date 3/21/17.

Second was 18 eggs - mix of marans and olive eggers - from riggins chickens (ID), 13 hatched; too young to sex, hatch date 5/12/17. 5 of 6 olive eggers and 8 of 12 marans made it :) I think I lost three due to humidity issues and air circulation issues during incubation (I was worried about air cell development and probably changed the humidity too much towards the end of incubation; I used the rails with the foam in my brinsea 20 and I think that negatively affected air flow and temperature).

and this last batch, due June 2, are silkies from a breeder down in AZ. 7 out of 12 made it to lockdown! Can't wait to see how it goes.

Well...I just locked down my three remaining Olive Egger eggs. I have no idea if they will hatch or not? I candled the 2 Partridge Brahma and 2 Olive Eggers that are under my sister in laws broody hen on Saturday (the third PB was broken but was not fertile as I suspected). The secon PB was not fertile. The third PB had developed and was moving so cross your fingers it will hatch. The Two Olive Eggers had good air cells...but that was all I could see. The broody is one day ahead of my two Olive Eggers so today is day 20 for her and day 19 for me. Oh...and because I was feeling disappointed about these shipped eggs we decided to drive over to a family owened hatchery in TN ( Mother Hen's Hatchery) and get 8 chicks...my plan was 2 OE's 2 EE's and 4 Ameraucana (all splash). Well...I ended up with 2 OE, 6 Ameraucana 2 blue, 1 splash (it's all they had) and 3 black. Because I bought 8...they had two brooders with 3 week olds , white ameraucana, Light Brahma and RIR and a few others that they said I could have for free as they had incubators full of eggs due to hatch this week and they needed the room! I only brought home two Light Brahma's so if the one PB hatches and lives...she'll have some girls her size! Please keep your fingers crossed for me!!! Here are the new babies!

Day 18 is tomorrow for my first batch of 6! Only one infertile :) rest seem to be developing ok fingers crossed. Hoping that this early batch doesn't screw up my later one that I put in a week after. Going to try and keep it as contained and clean as possible! Wish me luck!!!

I know I'm always the problem child when it comes to incubating because I'm such a worry wart and newbie, but I need some help spacewise with my hatch. I've got 5 eggs due to hatch Sunday but I literally have no room for the 5th. I am doing a staggered hatch of 18 so I can't really lay them on the grate (hence the carton) but I can't fit the last egg in the still carton. Everywhere else is too cold for the egg. Any advice?
