Would advise you not to order from the Poultry Hatchery. I am going thru a real bad experience with them, and see past posts that are now closed to discussion, Seems that the owner was all over this site trying to get people to buy his birds and berating those who did not, and was eventually banned from posting anymore. I believe I may have had a run in with this person when trying to order.
I placed an order for "available" chicks back on 4/8/14. I do totally understand that hatch dates can vary by a few days or a week. I have dealt with McMurray for years and have always been very happy, but they are overwhelmed right now and had nothing available that I wanted until late May/June. So I found this PH place and they claimed they had chicks available. I placed an online order, and it was received by them with a note the order would not be filled until they could verify payment (a good credit card).
After a week, I heard nothing, so I emailed them 2 days in a row wanting to know what was up. By this time, my chicks should have shipped or been ready to ship. I got an email from them saying that they were overwhelmed with Easter orders and my order was sitting on someone's desk in a pile waiting to be put into the system to determine a date. I finally received a phone call from an "Anthony" who told me my chicks would not be available until mid May, and my guinea hens not until the end of June, BUT if I doubled my order for guines, I could get them mid June HUH???!!?? I told him to cancel the whole order, I could not wait that long.
He started raising his voice and told me I would be charged 25% of the order plus a penalty for canceling. I told him there was nothing on their site that said before an order is in the system it could not be canceled, and he started yelling at me, I was like wait a minute, let me talk, and he shouted I would be charged and hung up on me.
So obviously, my order sat there until I started asking what was going on, they quickly put it into their system and then called me to say they were not "available" as stated on their site. So now according to their terms, my order is in their system and I can be charged their penalties. I will most definitely fight this through my credit card company, and this "Anthony" person will NOT get paid for doing nothing. I can certainly understand if I had canceled the order and the chicks were ready to hatch and no other takers, I get that policy. But they didn't even have fertile eggs yet!!! I have my proof in writing, so should not be a problem at all.
I would not do business with these folks if I were you. Metzers has some limited availability over the next few weeks, so got some from them, and some from Meyer, will be getting this week.
The Poultry Hatchery seems to have very poor business practices and extremely rude customer service, trust me, they will be hearing my voice everywhere. This guy would not let me speak, was YELLING at me altho I was not at him, and hung up. Boy I was some PO'ed, slept on it for a couple of nights to calm myself down, but that may have been a mistake because now I am even more stewed, especially after finding the posts from last year on here.
I hope you did not order anything from them, with a little searching, there are availables out there, and also check with your local hardware/farm stores, but they are overwhelmed too. OMG, how I wish I had a rooster, but will this week, and will try to never order online again, except from McMurray, and way early, and if Metzers and Meyers come in healthy and are okay, will deal with them too if I have to.
Please, everyone, boycott this hatchery. Dishonest and false advertising and rude customer service and...guess that's enough. Let me know if I can do anything for you if you have ordered. United fronts have more strength.
