Pasty butt often happens if the temps are too cool. Chicks cheep a lot when they're cold.
Re: OP, I couldn't tell from your picture what it was? If it's not the vent, maybe it's where the yolk sac is absorbed - the umbilica cord?
I'm surprised that the silkies were sexed, Usually bantams come straight run because they're too small to sex.
