Hello everyone! I am a brand new mom to 8 red productions that are supposed to be pullets, about 8 wks old. Though i have suspicions that one is a roo as it has been trying to crow every morning for the last week and a half! I love my new babies and am so happy to have found this site! This is a picture of Crowing Glory ;)

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, if it is crowing every morning, and generally most cockerels can start the crow in the brooder, you do indeed have a cockerel!! Do you plan on keeping him? Roosters can be enjoyable to keep, they keep the peace with the hens and are good protectors of the flock. And besides, who doesn't love the crow of a rooster!!

Make yourself at home here on BYC and welcome to our flock!

Thanks for the welcome! Yes they are indeed young and i was surprised to hear this every morning at 7 am facing the window. Maybe its not crowing but some other sound? Ive never had chicks before so maybe im wrong :) if it is a rooster he is here to stay, i couldnt give any of them up!

Roosters generally start crowing when they just become fully mature. In the picture it still looks like a pullet especially if its a production red their combs can be larger. Other adult hens might be laying eggs in your flock causing them to sound off, which may sound like crowing.

Thanks for the info nicole camp :) im so confused because i have one that has a huge red comb already but isnt the one squawkin in the morn lol. I guess ill know for sure if one doesnt lay eggs right?
