pile of feathers no missing chickens there all fine??

I have 3 welsummers, 1 ameraucana,and 1 buff orpington, all one year old i found a small pile of grey ameraucana feathers but she seems to be fine. I dont know where they came from? The ameraucana just started laying again so idk

I've seen one of my chickens pull out feathers from another and it left a small pile. One nasty peck can pull out several feathers that spread around. Hopefully, that's what you're seeing. Check your chicken over well to make sure there isn't a wound under her feathers and to make sure something other than a chicken scuffle is to blame.

Sometimes a broody hen will self pluck. I had a old black giant who no longer laid but would sit any eggs she found. Thought she was a gonner till I found her sitting behind hay bales on some araucana eggs. LOL thought my pullets were starting laying a bit late. No clue how old the eggs were so I let her hatch and raise them (locked up the pullets for a week to get them oriented on the nesting boxes).
