Texas BYC Cafe

I am glad to see you. I was just getting back into the swing of things, and was asked to bottle feed 3 newborn kittens so I have been just reading again. I am very happy to see you here :thumbsup

My brooder. It's huge! It's 48"x30" and 32.5" high. It's Sasha's old kennel. I screened it in so the chicks can't escape. I have a heat plate (from Premier), water bottle (from Premier) and food dish (reamer). And some toys.

I'm doing FF. I got a really cute 1 gallon glass jar that looks like a barrel at Walmart to use for it.

I haven't started on the coop yet, but I am modifying the bluegrass coop slightly that I has posted before. I like and it will work well for my yard. I will add an additional run around it too.

I'm hoping to have 1 of each kind of chicken I listed, but we all know how chicken math works. I have 10 bantams coming! lol! I had to order minimums... Only planning on keeping 2-4. The city says I can have 12 chickens. I really want to only have at most 6. I guess that will go to 8 with the bantams. I figure 2 of them = 1 LF. ;)
I know this is an old post, so I'm not sure if anyone will see this. I am looking at using this same type setup for 15 bantams hatching next week. I'm wondering how many weeks I can expect this space to work before I have to move them outside? the 4x6 coop will be finished in a couple of weeks and the weather here is 60+ at nights. I can keep the brooder plate in there with them if needed, too. thanks for any advice.

@ddoss - It should be ok for a week or two? I always brood my chicks outside. As long as they don't get any wind they should stay warm under the brooder plate. It's a little cooler in Ark, but most of the really cold should be gone by now.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking a couple weeks inside only since it’s my first time and they are bantams. I’m hoping to wrap up the coop this weekend it next and it will give me a little time to make sure it’s not drafty.
