My first hatch turned 5 weeks old today I took 8 hens and 2 roos for my breeder pen. the hens weigh 6.5 oz to 6.8oz and the roos weigh 7.4 and 7.5 ozs. Is this a good size for 5 wks? The other 9 I'm planning to butcher so what age or weight should I be looking for? I also have 80 more in the brooder box that will be 2 wks tomorrow and I plan on keeping another set of breeders from them. I hope I can sell the rest. One more question at what weight do you consider these birds to be Jumbo's?

Sounds like the jumbo has been bred out of them and they are about standard size. That's very common. 20 years ago a jumbo was 16 oz minimum. It took centuries of selective breeding to produce that. It took only a short while in comparison in America to turn that around. Now I think people claim 10-14 oz is a jumbo where it used to be 16-18 oz. For jumbos you only set the large eggs from large birds. Here's how big a jumbo should be.
