Over the past couple of days, I have noticed some alarming behavior with a couple of my chickens (my Leghorn & one of my EEs)...
"Fred", the Leghorn, made her way onto the roof of their coop the other day...approximately 3ft from the fence, where she could easily have flown away. Luckily I talked her down with little issue.
Today "Fred" & one of our unnamed Easter Eggers were perched on top of the fence (that separates our yard from our neighbors' yard)...my husband went around into the neighbors' yard and shoo'd them off the fence.
The first instance wasn't provoked by any event, but the second instance was shortly after we'd tried to catch a couple of them (for a friendly snuggle). Could they be reacting to too much excitement, or should we be worried they are eager to escape? Also...how can we prevent this from happening without restricting their area (ie; wire at the top of the fence, etc)? Their "run" is a 400sq/ft fenced off section of our yard...8ft tall fences. I don't want to run the risk of losing them to their own curiosity...but I also don't want to clip their wings. Any suggestions?
