Mixing breeds

I just got chickens for the first time on Saterday. I got 4 bard rock pullets wich are about 8/9 weeks old... and 4 Rhode Island Red heritage wich are about 13 weeks and a trio of lavender orpingtons wich are around 18 weeks! I never planned on getting a rooster...but because the seller would only sell me a trio... i wanted the Lav orpingtons and got caught up in the moment! The ages are sure a span.... The Lavender orpingtons want nothing to do with all the other chickens and sure do peck the heck out of the lil guys! Will the Lavender rooster breed with the bard rocks and RIRs when they are older? And is that a bad thing to mix? They all stay in the same coop . But the trio certainly stay in they're clickety clutch and pick/peck on the younger ones. IS that normal ? Just looking for some guidance and what to do ? thanks everyone :)

Frowned upon? By whom?
YOU are the steward of the flock; do as you wish.

Since you have such a diverse group, it isn't much matter as far as breed purity goes. If you want that, you really should specialize in just one or two breeds and maintain them separate from anything else. But to improve what you HAVE, the place to start is right with the flock you have.
Here is something for you to read along these lines

Hi caseyrocksit

Unfortunately, they will peck at each other when they are different ages. They will probably settle down shortly. Make sure that there is a bolt hole for the littles to run to when being chased. The Lavs are really beautiful. Maybe they are Divas.
