I have three hens who all went broody two days ago. They are all sharing one nest and 11 eggs. Is this normal behavior that I should let happen? I know if two separately broody hens and their babies get put together, the moms can get aggressive toward the other chicks. But if they brood and hatch together, will they get confused about who is "mom" and try to hurt the babies? Two of them have each gone broody once before. One of them was a great mom and one was not. Should I try to break the "bad" mom of her broodiness? Should I just separate them out and divide up the eggs?

I once had 3 hens share nests and chicks without a hitch. But anything can happen. In general, I prefer to house each broody separately while they are setting, then turn them out with the flock when the chicks hatch. This gives the broody the peace and quiet to allow her the sort of "trance" they go into, for the setting period, without disturbing her or the eggs.

Broodies don't usually like to be moved, of course. Separating them out might be enough to break one or both of their broodiness. Of course, it might be the one who you want to stay broody. I'm afraid there is no "right" answer. I'd probably move the one who was not a good broody in the past, in the hope it would break her, and house the other separately in the hope she will hatch at least most of the eggs herself. But I''m not there, watching their reactions to things. You just have to take your best guess.
