Mean Rooster. PLEASE HELP!

We've started out w. 9 baby chicks last spring. We found out once they got older that we in fact had 8 hens and 1 rooster. Last fall he started to get possessive over the ladies and started to attack my boyfriend, dogs and me! My poor Rottweiler is deathly scared of him as far away as he can. My English Bulldog will go head to head w. him but she returns with many cuts. I have come back from the coop w. multiple bruises and my boyfriend always manages to fight them off. He was always mean but within the last 4 weeks he has gotten even worse. We had a raccoon get into our coop and kill 7 hens

. we are now down to 2 hens and Rooty (the name of our rooster). I tend to morning chores, which means I get attacked every morning while letting them out, getting them fed and watered. Is it really worth trying to "train" him to be nice to us? or is it time to throw the towel in and call it a day? I REALLY hate to kill him since we did raise him since he was a baby chick but I also can't take these daily attacks.
 
He's being a rooster and doing what instinct tells him to do - allowing your bulldog to "go head to head" with him is only going to make the problem worse, not better. That being said, it is no behavior I would want to live with or behavior that I would want passed on to any chicks he produced
Send him to freezer camp or, if you can't do it yourself, give him to someone who can/will but BE HONEST about why you are getting rid of him.

Each bag was one rooster. They weren't even mean, just too many boys.

There's no reason in the world to put up with an animal that attacks you. He doesn't care that you raised him, and since this behavior has been going on for months, I'd say cull him. Your 2 hens are probably going to be much happier. You sure will be!

I don't purposely let my bulldog go head to head w. him. we have free range chickens so they are all out. the rooster the guard the yard and not let the dogs out to go to the bathroom. my bulldog is trying to show her ground as much as the rooster is trying to show his. I am super frustrated and thank you both for your comments.

how much is the rooster protecting my last 2 hens? just another reason I am scared to get rid of him. Its funny my hens are so friendly meanwhile he's attacking me.

I keep chickens because I enjoy them. If a chicken takes away my enjoyment, I don't keep it. I would not enjoy a rooster that attacks me. He may or may not be "protecting" your hens while they're out. If he were gone, your hens would adapt and keep an eye out for danger themselves. As donrae said, he really doesn't care that you raised him. He obviously sees you as either a threat or lower in the pecking order than he is. Either way, I would not keep him. I'd put him in the freezer.
