I was wondering what y'all use as feeders for your FF. Right now we are just using big rubber bowls but I hate how they are able to stand in the feed. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks guys

FF? Would love to answer the question, but am really struggling to figure out what that abbreviation is for and would hate to guess wrong and offer an answer that has nothing to do with what you are asking.

Fermented feed. Lol I thought I saw ppl abbreviate it on here. Sorry should have not been lazy and just spelled it out.

I'm sure it's been used - no worries or need to apologize, I was just sitting here running through all the possible meanings and that never even crossed my mind even though it is SO obvious now, lol.

We just started our first batch of meat birds about 3 weeks ago and I've been experimenting with fermented feed too...but I'm mystified as to how people feed this to their birds? Do you just have to keep going out throughout the day and feed them cup by cup so they don't climb in and bathe in it?? We've tried a variety of things, cups, bowls, the gravity feeder, finally a big huge trash can lid! The lid has been the best so far just because it can hold enough for our 25 birds to have a meal, but they all climb in and have a big ol' party in there. It just doesn't seem practical....I'm debating on whether it's worth it to do this if i can't find the appropriate way to put a large amount of slop in there and go to town and come back in the evening. Would LOVE some ideas!

I have no advice, just sympathy, and following

We have 20 -4 week old CX's and just switched to FF... it's a friggen mess in there. I'm also trying to figure out exactly how much to feed them...

I've seen posts where they are using 4 inch pvc pipe cut in half, others use plastic rain gutter. Metal should not be used, except stainless steel, because the FF will leach out the metal into the feed. Which is why most folks make FF in plastic buckets.

I've not raised meat birds for years now, and even with the above long feeders, I suppose it is just going to be a mess. Have you checked out one or the other FF threads in this section? They both contain a wealth of feeding tips and different feeders, though they are quite long.

Best to you and your birds,

RJ

Thanks :) I have been looking on other threads, but I just started skimming this morning. It doesn't seem like there's any 'clean' way to feed it. :-/

Yes, when I feed my pullets FF they forget that they are ladies. But NOTHING like a hungry meat bird, If there were somehow to be more hours in a day, I'm sure they would use those to eat as well. Those guys are eating machines…
