Sexing silkies!

Hi,

Well, I sure am glad I stumbled upon this thread. Don't worry, I have NO idea about Silikies as my son got 3 chicks from his 2nd grade teacher and at first we did not even know what any of them were. Anyway, the kids are at school so it was hard to really get some good shots, and I sure did have some cleaning to do once I was finished with the "photo shoot". We call them Butter cup and Lily,
till proven otherwise.

Lily Buttercup

Buttercup

Buttercup

Buttercup has more feathers on her legs, she came that way too, she is slightly bigger, but not much. Side note the little bantam would always try to snuggle her, and she would let her. Below is Lily

Lily

Lily is the most bravest of them all. She is sweet and likes to be held more than Buttercup. Her legs are starting to get some feathers.

Have to guess their ages as the teacher got them from TSC. We have had them for a little over 3 weeks, not sure how long they were at TSC. This is fun either way. I figure we won't know till they start to crow. Oh, please don't crow. So, what to you think? Do you need some different shots? Thanks! Hope you have a great day!

Hi!! You have some beautiful chicks! :D It's so cool how you just happen to get silkies when your daughter wanted some. And now you, like most people with silkies want it to be a pullet, we'll I have good news and bad news. Buttercup is a little GIRL! :clap Now for the "bad" news.....from what I can see your Lily looks more like a Luis :/ But not to worry, it is a little early to be completely sure, heck, something I don't know what my silkies are till they crow or lay an egg (and I'm good at this :p ) But buttercup is a girl and lily is looking like a boy, if you look at wattle development lily has a more than buttercup does. Also could you post some more pictures maybe next week so I can keep an eye on their development, and let you know if lily is truly a Luis. P.s: Your little bantam is really pretty, it kind of looks like my partridge EE when she was young.

Oh, thanks, your too kind and thanks for taking the time to reply. They were completely unexpected but how could we say no. Well, Megan's chick is Lily/

She said, and I quote "well how can she even tell if she wattles when she walks, you didn't even send in a video."

Yes, chicken rookies we are. I will send in more pictures next week or so, maybe by then they won't look so silly. Lily, (for now, or as Megan said, "she will always be Lily to me." ) is like a half and half, and buttercup has that funny stripe down her with no feathers. Now, Chirpy, is still a mystery.

PS Someone just told me a partridge, (not knowing that is really a color pattern) I looked up partridge and partridge Rock came up and she does look like one. I had thought she was maybe a EE, but someone else said no, the shanks were the wrong color. Now someone guesses Barnevelder. (but everything I have read said that Barnevelder's are rare here) and seeing they came from TSC I doubt it.

OK tells us who has the bigger butt?

Do these new feathers make our butts
look bigger?

That captions cracks Megan up, and personally the pictures just makes me laugh.
