Long story, short.... I contacted my twp to get more information about the local zoning laws. I spoke with the clerk, while the zoning person was busy, who couldn't give me a direct answer if chickens were allowed on my property (.84 acres). She put me on hold for a few minutes while she did some research. The clerk told me "well, it's very difficult to understand, but I think you're allowed to have chickens" which made my week. She made a photo copy of the zoning laws and mailed it to me, low and behold, she was incorrect and I am not allowed to have chickens.

Pigeons and poultry may be bred, raised or produced on lots of two acres or more.....

After reading thru and trying my best to understand everything, why can't I get by with calling my 2 chickens "pets"?
Does anyone have any luck with that defense? Where else should I be looking on our zoning laws to give me some direction. Should I just call up the zoning office and question this, or just get the chickens and play dumb claiming they are pets? I appreciate your help in advance
