Found a wooden china cabinet with no glass in the doors for $15. Took it home, stapled hardware cloth where the glass should be, laid it down and covered the now "floor" with a piece of scrap vinyl flooring I had left over from another project. Then a serious layer of pine shavings and Voila! I now have a wooden "brooder box" that is WAY bigger than the cardboard boxes or plastic totes I WAS using!

Good for you. We've been looking on Craigslist for free wood scraps/pallets to build our coop. So far we have 85% of the coop built and only put about $6 of our own money towards it. I will post later when finished. Building a coop can cost a lot and I hope to end with spending maybe $40

I made my coop out of a wooden packing crate that I found in the CL "Free" section. Instead of plywood, the sides were 2x6's !! I think it will withstand the next hurricane!!
