Difference between Erminette Breed and Erminette Color?

This thread has been dead for a little while so I thought I'd post a few pics. They aren't the best as the birds were cooped up after dark, but you can get a visual. I have in this coop a trio, two Erminette colored and one white colored. The male and white female are 4 months old today and the little female is two months old. The male weighs just a hair over 6 lbs which is amazing considering his age. Really looking forward to seeing how his finishes out. As he matures I'll have to post a few pics of him during the day while he's moving about to you all can get a good glimpse of him.

Nice pictures. I have one cockerel that looks almost exactly like that boy, with willow green legs. He weighed 5.00 pounds at 16 weeks, on 18% chick starter. He is my best black marked cockerel. I have a couple of others that are bigger (5.25# to 5.35# at 16 weeks). They are marked black/blue or are all white.

Hello All. This is Curt (IowaBlueCurt). When Glenn asked me to get involved with the Erminette I was raising Iowa Blues. Hence the IowaBlueCurt. I only have enough space to raise one breed, so I was wasn't interested in raising the Erminette. Glenn worked on me long enough that I said, 'Ok, you pick the breed. If Erminettes, then the Iowas will have to go.' So, I gave him the majority of my Iowa Blue flock and he gave me some Erminette chicks. But then the little dilemma came....IowaBlueCurt no longer had Iowa Blues.........
So, I decided to go with a new username that would be universal for anything. I look forward to working with these birds and hopefully over the next few years the breeders can solidify a standard type to breed towards.

Hello again. I started a new thread under the title of Erminette. The purpose of the new thread to is begin the discussion of where the breeders would like to see the breed go. Hopefully this will become a healthy environment for the breeders to share their thoughts and concerns for the Erminette and to hopefully aid in making lasting value for this unique gene pool. A couple questions that need answering -
1) Do we try to establish the Erminette as a separate breed or work on establishing the color pattern on recognized APA breeds such as the Wyandotte and Rock (which is actually a historic part of the Erminette's history).
2) Type is something that is not firmly established yet. Where do the breeders see the type if they are going to establish the Erminette as a separate breed?
Please feel free to use the new thread for type and color discussion. I suspect there will be come good conversation happening in the near future.

The census will run from April 1st through May 15th (The census is live now for anyone who wants to get a jump start of filling it out).
