Mulberry Trees

I was pleasantly surprized to get a pm asking if I would like to get a few mulberry starts!!! How generous!! A gift!! They were potted up right away and are in the shady side of the house to help them adjust with just afternoon sun. One is well leaved out so all will be moved to full sun tomorrow!!!

I'm thrilled.

We have our first flock of 33 chickens and have 3 HUGE Mulberry trees. We harvested over 50 lbs from them last year and I was wondering if it was ok for the chicks/chickens to eat the berries and foliage? My husband froze some of the "not so perfect" berries and fed them to the deer this winter and they truely enjoyed the winter treat, can I do the same with my flock?

Yes chickens love mulberries . I let mine free range under some mulberry trees .

Thank you so much, I was hopeing that was the case. We had so many berries we didn't get a chance to harvest last year, this year I'll just let the ladies out and they can play clean up/catch up with me :)

I know this is the Mulberry thread, but we have a bunch of crab apple trees, regular apple trees and sour cherry trees too... along with strawberry bushes and raspberry vines... all ok for my little fluffies?
