Please help! Injured duck foot!

Hi there, I know this was posted in May, but I wonder if you have an follow up news or advice. We just found our Pekin being attacked by a snapper. The turtle let his foot go as soon as he saw us and now the duck has the exact injury that yours had. I already cleaned it up and sprayed it with vet grade antiseptic bandage. I wonder how yours healed? Does the duck walk normally now? Any info you can provide would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Hi Minnie - I'm so sorry that you are going through this. It's no fun.

If I had to go through that again, I would probably clean it as best I could, spray it with colloidal silver to help ward off infection and then dry it and put the liquid bandage on it. I really felt like the liquid bandage helped it to heal faster by allowing it to be unwrapped and get some air to the skin around it at least.

I really was quite amazed at how well she healed! I was afraid to put her back at the pond again - it wasn't quite healed when I let her go, but she was so ready to go. I checked on her a lot, was worried for the first day or so, but after that it started looking much better. I put more liquid bandage on it a day or so after I let her go, but that was it. She healed completely! She had to learn to walk again - she got around no problem, but a little slower than the others at first. Now I have to really look close to see which one is her! She is fine!!

Hi, Thanks so much for your reply. We have been keeping it clean and we used the spray bandage from the vet, I think it is similar to liquid bandage. Now we need to create a large pen in the wetland as we can't find the turtle and there could be more than one! Thanks again for your help, I appreciate it!!

No problem!

We got some large hooks and strong line and put some chicken hearts/gizzards on them from the grocery store. Tied the lines to bushes near the edge of the water and threw the lines out. That's how we got two turtles from our pond.
