hello fellow chicken eaters

i have an 8 week meat bird cornish cross that began to crow this morning
it wasn't a full crow but it was definately crowing

this rooster and companions are set for departure this weekend
don't roosters have to be 6 month's old to crow?

just wondering

There is no set age at which a bird can begin to crow - just as with humans or other animals the developments can vary widely with both early and late bloomers and those that fall in the "average" . You'll see a lot of "rules" or "facts" about when they should do this or that in books, online, etc - but apparently chickens don't read those books, lol.

I've got a 4-month old Rhode Island Red rooster that started crowing at the ripe old age of 7 weeks.

It wasn't a cock-a-doodle-doo...more like "uh-uuuhh"
