Tired of the ghetto, moving to Mena, AR

When I raise CX, I use an 8x8 brooder for the first three weeks. I use an 8x8 chicken tractor that get's moved daily (twice per day near the end) for 35 days. I can house 40 birds in the tractor. I feed them an 18% protein broiler feed from end to end. My goal is for the birds to dress on average at 6lbs at 8 weeks. Plan your freezer space accordingly.
 
The issue I have is- I'm lazy. I don't feel like screwing around with a tractor. I'm going to put a solar door opener and closer on the coop. I get up, use the bathroom, put out the wild bird seed, walk the mutt, pour coffee, bible study, then start my day. With this system I'm planning it's feed the birds, use the bathroom, pour coffee then study. if I do it right I'll only have to feed them twice a day.

Get the right type of feeder and you’ll only have to feed once a week to once a month. I personally like the giant drums that are feed converted and would do it myself if the goats let me. Just a suggestion from one lazy person to another🤣

I use that method for my layers, but would fear the mortality rate for CX would be through the roof.
 
I agree with the others who raise Cornish cross... if you had a space (forget the tractor if you don't wanna move it, it's not necessary) that can house 50 cornish x, which is roughly 60-70 sq feet, and a similar sized run, you will only have to raise them when you run out of meat...and only have to feed them twice a day... and a separate place for maybe a dozen hens, unless all 12 of you eat eggs every single day. The eggs pile up fast when you aren't using them every day.
