I have 2 African geese about 2 1/2 months old. One has a very dark stripe down it's neck and the other one's is very light. Their feathers are identical. Could the dark stripe mean gander? TIA.

I do not know a great deal about Africans..but here at home I have the same situation..one goose with a very dark stripe & one with a much lighter one.. The goose with the dark stripe demonstrates Gander behavior...is more protective when greeting strangers, will stretch out his neck & chatter..no hissing yet! He is generally larger than the goose with the lighter neck stripe as well.

Hope that helps a little.

Have fun with your geese!

I'm thinking the same thing. I've noticed that he's pretty dominant since moving to his permanent digs. If he's in the pool first, he'll try to bite the ducks if they try to join him and they were raised together. He was significantly smaller than the other goose when we got them but is catching up. Maybe he has little man syndrome, too, lololol.

Good luck with yours as well. I love these guys.

Yes, they were purchased together. Weeble, the darker neck, is more nosey and dominant than Wobble. Weeble is also the smaller of the 2. I hope you're right. I guess I'll know for sure when one lays an egg, lol.

Yea the female can be dominent of the male but that will change later on.
And since the darker one is smaller its for sure a female !
I cant see their faces but are they pure Africans?!

Well we will see in future they do at that angle have both chinese and african heads
Btw Africans are very light in colour where as chinese are darker.
Even tho you can also have the odd dark african
