There was a bee flying by my babies today. One tried to go for it but I freaked out and stopped it! All I could picture was his face and throat swelling shut! Has this happened to anyone?

My goose chases bees - only the ones flying around her when she's on the grass; she never goes for them in the flower beds. When she catches one, she'll give it a few chews and spit it out. Most times the bee hasn't even been hurt and just flies away. She's never been stung - well, yet.
As geese don't eat bugs, I don't think you need to worry about their throats swelling shut. If a bee is able to sting after being caught by a goose, it'll most likely be in the tip of the bill. Never heard of it, though.
It's more likely that geese will get stung in their feet if they step on a bee, or in the face if they disturb a bee in a flower. I don't worry about it, because there's really nothing I can do to prevent it.
That said, I can't help but share this link. Poor goose! But on the plus side, it seems that a goose can survive being covered in bees.

very interesting story, goose girl (on the link) -- I had a gosling a few years ago that loved to catch grasshoppers - she started it when she was just a month or so old and kind of taught her siblings to enjoy catching them too. She is the only one I've ever had that consistently caught bugs, she had some type of respiratory problem so only lived to be about 9 months old
