Dealing with Chipmunks

Quote:
Its always a good idea to check local laws but chipmunks are not federally protected. Here is the listings by state. http://ecos.fws.gov/tess_public/StateListing.do?state=all Or you can look at all the listings. http://www.fws.gov/endangered/wildlife.html#Species (scroll down and click on the mammal section).

You will be happy to know, that you have been misinformed. Chipmunks are under the control of the PA game commision but it is not illegal to kill them. You can kill them if they are a nusiance or even before. "Pennsylvania law allows landowners to take chipmunks when they are causing or about to cause dammage to property" That quote is from the below link, courtesy state of PA.

old thread.. but still relevant.. i am having a problem keeping chipmunks out of the coop.. they are eating so much of the chicks feed.. they are bold little critters.. i don't want to kill them.. and my cats are indoor cats.. hmmm.. and i live in the woods, so trapping a few won't get rid of them all.. i'm sure there's always another to replace it..

Just pick up the feed when the chickens are done with it, and put it back down again later. They don't have to have feed available to them all day. You can feed the chickens twice a day, then pick up the feed each time.

i never thought to pick up their feed.. thought they needed it available.. but they are free ranging so well.. i rarely see them go in the coop during the day.. i have noticed the chipmunks havent been around the past 2 days.. yeah!
