How about a new thread for those of us in wheelchairs?

Perchie
X2! some very good ideas Perchie. Unfortunately pallet walkways don't hold up very well to our snowload but they do make great floor bases for small buildings! Hubby used a couple for my little workshop. We have several "benches around the area. A friend of ours tore his deck off a few years ago and he was going to throw away all those seats that were built into the railing, silly person!!! They were made of pressure treated wood already so Pa just put base boards under them so they would stand on their own and I just slapped a good coat of opaque red deck stain on them and voila! Three nice five foot benches. I moved them around several times over the years but now there is one in front of my coop/greenhouse, one against the house where I can sit and watch the chooks play in the garden and one out by the garden cottage (now pa's workshop) sitting between two huge white pines.

We have two riding mowers but it's really hard for me to get on them and in the snow they are no good anyway. I did pick up a rollator. It's a bit beat up but I got it in an auction super cheap. That will probably work pretty well once I am down to the leg brace. Guess I just have to accept the fact my days of motivating without some sort of aid are over. My dr was trying to tell me that even before I fell but I was being bullheaded. BUT I AM NOT ............

Yep.Mine will be a poultry house Exterior isometric sketch. Rigth now I have enough kennel panels to construct the whole thing My location is in the desert so open air is the best construction.

cross section showing Roof pitch as very gradual.

A single partition showing dimensions. and equipment

floor plan the whole thing is 24 x 24 and made of dog kennel panels.
The wheel chair individual is to scale with the rest of the floor plan.

I am not completely disabled yet but am designing this poultry house with the Idea that I will be eventually.
At this point the setup will allow me to do all the feed water and egg collection from within the center aisle. Out of Wind Sun and occasional rain. I show being able to go into each partition through the kennel door... But I havent built it yet I do know my Walker barely goes in but I have to turn it sideways and te one set of wheels in first.

The stall mats are five eights thick rubber and very very durable and very ver heavy. Easy to clean and maintain and take no special installation process except to make sure the ground is level and reasonably compact underneath.

probably bigger than you want.

Best suggestion is to plan your access path make sure you have room to maneuver and as few retrace steps as possible. My hardest part will be cleaning the coop. there are a couple of strategies for this.

1. Do deep litter.... read up on that. Most people that do deep litter method only clean the coop once a year.
2. Do Sand.... an occasional raking will handle most jobs.... kind of like a cat litter box.
3. Use some sort of Poop collection system for directly under the roosts This is where the most poo is deposited.
A. Poop board
B. Canvas collector (my personal lean)
Each can be cleaned through an access port from the outside.... I havent figured that out yet. It gets to be around 100 degrees here in the desert in the summer so the less time spent out from under shade is best...

Ideally having feed and supplies near at hand is a good idea.

Good luck

from the San Diego High desert.

Keep looking around to find possiblities and designs that you like I can help brainstorm adaptations and help offer suggestions. Others here may pop in there hasnt been activity here in some time but they may still be subscribed.

There are as many designs of coops as there are Climates and needs.
