A chick that hatched has curled toes and can't stand up!! He is just lying on his back and when he does try to walk he just flops over. The poor thing can't get any food like this. I'd post pics but I can't find my camera. Buttons need food pretty soon after they hatch and if he can't get up to get any I'm sure he will die soon is there anything I can do!? Oh he was stuck in his egg for 3 or so days.

Without seeing him it's hard to be sure. Being stuck in the egg that long, he probably has some development issues and he may be having trouble walking due to nervous system failure. Hatching is Darwin's first test fort these guys. You can really only hope for the best however if he can't eat and drink properly you will need to euthanize him.

ETA they get nerve problems from not drinking enough water, and nerve problems usually affect the way they walk and move.

Oh gosh I hope I don't have to, I'll take some pictures as soon as I find the camera!

I have only hatched coturnix but 2 with badly deformed feet were able to walk instantly with cardboard shoes. One that had just hatched had really awful feet but I didnt want him to get a chill so cut stiff paper triangle about the size of the other chcicks outstreached toes and used masking tape torn small for quick rough shoe. Day 3 when I took them off I found in my haste some of the toes had been taped still slightly curled so had to reapply one shoe but he was able to walk instantly whereas before his feet were so curled he was hobbling and falling over on the joints. I have also heard of dipping beaks in sugar water for weak chicks.

I made a splint for a curled toe and taped it.
Gatoraide or pedialyte helps get them going too. Start with 3/4 pedialyte to 1/4 water than go down each day until on straight water. Works for me.

I've tried to make quail shoes and tape spradled legs together but with my fat fingers, dim eyesight and a baby quail's tiny kicking legs I find it impossible and more humane to just cull it. Late hatchers have always had a failure to thrive and die soon after hatching in my experience.

Hey there's a factory in China that we can commission to make quail shoes, quail jordans.

Hey guys sorry for not posting sooner but sadly the poor thing died, I did make him some shoes he did not even try to walk in them, what was that saying again "You can lead a horse to water but you can't force them to drink?"
