As an anxiety sufferer, I find talking to others helps. So here's a thread for others who have anxiety as well.

Rules

No judging others, or saying "If you know it's in your head why are you still anxious?"
All BYC rules apply (kinda goes without saying).
We don't have to stay on topic. Other topics are welcome. :)

Have fun, relax, and have some fun conversations. As a conversation starter, has anyone found anything that helps with anxiety?

I have M.E, or CFS or whatever else it gets called
Two years after becoming ill I had a bad relapse
And then I had my first anxiety attack!
Oh my goodness it was awful
And really draining on my M.E.

To cut a long story short I tried medication prozac( made me worse)
Citalopram, not sure it does much
CBT didn't help

Then I found the Gupta programme,
It cost me £100 and for that I got DVDs a work book and a floor map

Happy to say it worked for me, its based on neuro linguistic programming
I think it gave me an instant calming effect that enabled me to get on top of it
I'm very pleased with how I now get on top of my anxiety before it builds

I'm sure it will never go away but know I know its just an adrenal rush causing my symptoms
I cope so much better

That's not fun. I'm sorry you had to go through that :( Is that program available in the US? A few months ago, I ended up in the ER because of a panic attack. I began having stroke-like symptoms (couldn't walk, talk, type, think, etc.) and I was put on Ativan for a little while. It seems to help when I'm having an attack.

I'm not sure if it is or not,
They are pretty bad like you say its like having a stroke its all consuming
Not heard of Ativan , I think Valium would stop a panic very quickly but drs wouldn't prescribe it
Long term.
I must admit I find it the most frustrating thing that you know what it is, that its usually an irrational thought that causes it, but they still happen
Do you get many attacks? Up I can guarantee if I have one in a certain place if I revisit the place I have one again
The brain is very clever!l
Just remember its not an ATTACK its a panic response , a warning all be it a bit over keen!
You can't die from a panic attack as nasty as it is, x

Ativan is a lot like Valium I believe. They're both "benzodiazepines". I get a few bad ones here and there, but I have lower scale panic attacks almost daily. Do you have a lot of them?

I do have a few a keek but can stop them within a minute or so.
I was like you when I tried the Gupta programme it was daily and a constant heightened anxiety feeling all the time
Very draining and restrictive, I do so much more now I can control them better

My anxiety is really bad. I have always had it but it worsened and added PTSD after I lost my brother in a tragic way. Now it can be the simplest thing to set me off but they are usually within my control. It took many years and many drugs to figure out a way to cope. I am good at avoiding triggers. The other day I had a bad one and sadly it was my daughter who triggered so it hurt her feelings. We had to have the mommy has anxiety talk and explain it is not her fault bit if mom says she needs quite then be quite. If I can have silence, fresh air, space and ac I can pull out before it gets bad. For my bad times I have Xanax which helps take the edge off of the attack.

It's nice to talk to others with this. A lot of people don't get it or think I am anti social. I just have learned it's not worth push g myself somewhere when I know I will have a high chance of an attack.

My first memory is being three and having a high anxiety reaction to a normal event. My kindergarten teacher genuinely thought I was mute. Diagnosed social anxiety disorder here, lifelong subscriber. Used to have a physical tremor, but it only effects me now when I'm really anxious/fearful and/or my blood sugar is off. Meds never did a thing for me, and changing thought patterns only helped to a certain point. I had lipomas start up on my thighs which in a round about way lead to a PCOS diagnosis, but that doc wants me to rule out adrenals. I'm wondering about it actually being nonclassic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (since all the fun hormone symptoms are the same). At any rate, started a low carb, low sugar diet because of it, and started noticing a better grasp over my anxiety. Definitely an unexpected perk, and has thrown me into an area of study I never considered before. It is unfortunate that western medicine tries to separate the mind and body so much.

I've been struggling so much with chronic fatigue lately that I haven't really been pursuing things health wise. Definitely have a long way to go, but also am so much better anxiety wise than I used to be. It is so good to hear others are finding ways to cope, improve, and heal as well. :)

I'll definitely look into that program. Sounds awesome! Glad that they're getting better.

I have anxiety when it comes to change.. I am also really shy.

I hate change too. :/

I'm so sorry about your brother. *hug* Nobody should have to deal with anxiety. I have some pretty touchy triggers too... Mine are anything pertaining to a certain type of illness. Even words, typed or spoken, make me jump. I have a mental filter that in a novel, I automatically see the words. Same with crowds, no matter how big I hear them. I'm what is called Emetophobic for anyone who wants to look it up. People don't understand triggers unless they have their own, I've found, which can be very frustrating at times. It's great that your daughter is so understanding and caring and that you know your triggers (I spent 3 years having no clue what my triggers were. I was 7, 10 when I finally figured it out).

I found this calming cream a few months ago. It's got lavender and stuff in it and it works really well for insomnia and stuff. It's by NeuroBiologix. :)
