We have one at the moment...sitting on 5 eggs...an Orpington.
Made a separate box for her so the 'favorite' box is not taken which results in lots of noise and mayhem.

She is doing great...comes out briefly to eat and drink then goes back to her babies. Has been about 5 days so far - candling has shown nice growth.

Wonderfully amazing and miraculous.

She is tucked back inside the bottom nesting box.

We got hit with a double-whammy this time around. The CL on top (who I call Pee-Wee) is on day four. All nine of her eggs are developing nicely. All of her babies will be affectionately called "barnyard mixes" because daddy roo is a mix himself. And then big ole' Betsy, the JG, is currently sitting on a dozen fake eggs while her real eggs are on the way in the mail. She'll be hatching some nice Blue Ameraucanas and some Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. Here's to hatching and best of luck to all!

Wow beautiful girls!!! Glad there gonna get to be mommys

We have our great JG broody right now who has raised 2 batches of out store bought chicks before because the one time we actually had a rooster, she wasn't broody so her sister raised the fertle eggs. We also have a BPR broody now but I think she's almost done because she's been broody for about 28 days now

Your barred rock's eggs are not gonna hatch if it's been 28 days because a chicken egg hatches around 21 days so they must be bad or something went wrong. Buy some chicks for her if you want since that sweetie sat that long. Hope you do keep us updated

I know, we don't have a rooster right now. So we'll probly buy young chicks from out local feed store and have her raise those :)
