We found a baby bird in the yard and my mother is taking care of it right now. (Yes it is legal for us to mess with wild birds) Its wing is broken but its acting quite lively, we have been feeding it and it eats well.

Any tips on how to handle something like this?

Sorry, I thought you were asking the species.

I'm sorry, but it's legal for you to handle wild birds? Is it (the mockingbird) native to where you live? If it's legal, than your mother must have some type of license, in which case she should know how to care for it.

Take it to a wild life rehabilitator, it requires special food and the wing will need to be set. That being said, I doubt it'll heal properly so the bird will fly again. Birds don't handle wing breaks well. If it won't be able to fly it'll need to go to someone who can legally keep it, or it'll be put down.

For the time being, put it on a heating pad set to low. Leave it alone, it shouldn't bond with humans if it will be released.
