Just wondering if anyone has tried crossing these two breeds? If so what was yoyr experience? Pics would also be nice if you have them.

I am thinking of doing one or both of these breeds for meat and egg production, aswell as just fun and recreation. The egg production is a low priority for me as I wont be selling eggs and dont eat a dozen a day lol.
These two breeds are currently at the top of my consideration list.

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

I have yet to do this cross, but the genetics behind the cross is simple..

Bielefelders are e+/e+ B/B s+/s+ autosexing breed..

Sulmtaler are eWh/eWh b+/b+ s+/s+ Wheate based bird that are not autosexing at all,

here how they look as chicks

Bielefelder chicks

now since this is a simple e+/e+ B/B x eWh/eWh b+/- cross we need to look at a similar cross to see what we can expect..

Legbar x Light Sussex(wheaten based and Silver instead of gold but you can see how the e+/eWh chicks will look)

Some new CL Hybrids.

Over the weekend, I had eleven chicks hatch. .

CLBxBO Cross

In this picture you can see what appears to be chipmunk stripping going down the back. Not certain that a head spot can be seen.

And very definite barring on the wing feathers.

The "Light" Chick

In this picture, you can clearly see the chipmunk striping going down the back.

another cream legbar x RIR cross

CCLxRIR .

Here he is at two weeks of age on September 22.

The following CCLxRIR chicks had the same father. They hatched September 7. These pictures are from September 18.

Thanks for the reply :)
Ok so it would be an autosexing breed then. Correct?
Thats cool if it is. I was not even thinking about autosexing really.
I was more thinking about adult birds, growth rates, egg production, meat quality and quantity.

No, it will not be autosexing, as you can see on the pics of the chicks, the e+/eWh heterozygotes(mix of wildtype and wheaten) dont have a distinctive autosexing chick down

Ok I was confused. It looked to me that the examples where showing autosexing chicks.

Well thats no big deal to me really. Im still really curious about these two breeds and their possible cross so when time comes I may just have to get both and try it out myself. The worse that could happen is that I end up with two awesome breeds that I will keep separate. Best case I may come up with something better than the two I started with. You never know until you try right?

actually I do know, if you cross your Bielefelder rooster to a Sulmtaler hen your cross will look alot like Bielefelders, the female will have a wildtype looking body(like bielefelder) and tooster will look like bielefelder(crele looking) but darker, its rather a simple cross to predict

Have you make the cross?

Did you ever make this cross? I have my bielfelders growing out with my sulmtalers, isbars and some other GFF chickens....If you did post a pic!
I was delighted to see this post. How the chicken looks is not nearly as important as how it performs. This is a cross I have high hopes for. Hybrid vigor, large meaty size and productive egg layers. I can't wait for mine to hatch. Thank you Christine!
