Speckled broiler from Moyers' chicks

some larger ones look as big as my production red layers who are 7 weeks older. but the speckled broilers are meatier, and feel heavier when lifted up. I will try to weigh a few tomorrow with a kitchen scale.

You asked about the feed... I personally would just keep them on the flock raiser and make sure they have calcium free choice when they start to lay. I don't think 20% protein is too high but I am far from a feeding expert.

How did the Moyer chicks turnout? Probably all males because the hens are used for laying. Most places charge more for male birds because they grow faster.

the speckled turned out to be half male and half female.

i kept the female and they lay quite well but are picked on a lot by my commercial red layers.

a few did not survive the winter.

the meat for the female stays tender even at 7-8 months old. the k22 is however stronger with more red meat.

only one k22 turned out to be female. i kept one rooster from k22 group. he is prob 15 lbs with elephant legs.
