We are brand new to chicken ownership- haven't even ordered them yet! Thanks to this forum, I think we are ordering from Meyer, but I'm having a hard time finding the right coop. We plan on getting 5-6 standards.

Does anyone have this coop? http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog...alow-Chicken-Coop-up-to-6-chickens-p1185.aspx

Do you like it? Big enough for 5-6 hens?

I plan on buying one run as well. They will be locked up most of the day, but we will let them free range every day when we are in the backyard with them. We live in Southern California so we can be outside year round, and we don't have a lot of prey around here so they will pretty much get to free range every day for at least an hour or two, if not more.

Thanks!

I seriously considered that coop- it looks fantastic. However, it's for up to 6 hens, which every review of every coop I looked at (spent months researching), says that usually means 4 would be comfortable, 6 could fit. It doesn't seem to mention if it's 6 full sized hens or 6 bantums, which are WAY smaller. If you get it for 6 hens, I'd make sure to get 2 runs. I got a fantastic coop that I love (although it's only been a week) with one run. It's supposed to be for 6-10 hens. Well, 8 full sized hens will fit in their great, BUT they need 2-3 runs...so, we'll have to do some expanding. If you plan to free range all day (or most of the day) 1 coop may be ok, but be prepared to order extra runs! Good luck!

Thanks! Which coop did you get? I am getting 6 so I think I need a bigger one.

I got this one, with one run. http://www.cconly.com/coop__hutches/cc-55_series

I love it, although it needs a few tweeks, as I'm sure they all do. It needs to be sealed , so I decided to paint it...by the time I got done with my 3 layers some of the doors stick a bit

I dont feel theres enough ventilation, so I think Im going to get some mesh to cover the front window/doors during the hot days. The locks for the nest boxes are...I dont know. Couldnt figure them out, so I just spent $5 and got new ones.

Other then that, it's really solid, it's a tractor, which I like- I dont plan to move it, but if I need to, its not that hard. The run has hooks that attach to the coop, which I also like, although Im not sure why. I feel like it'll keep drafts out during the winter and the interior is tall enough to safely put a light in there to help aid with egg production over the winter.

As I said, I'd go with 2 runs, though. We have one now, and Ill either expand to it this fall or order another in the early spring. Hope that helps, let me know if you have anymore questions. :)

I was looking at that one! I was scared to buy from them because there are so many bad review of cconly here on BYC forums- that they won't return calls and emails, send the wrong product or damaged, etc. Glad to hear that you like it! That might be a better option because the bungalow looks way too small for 6 chickens.

Thanks again!

Oh, well that's another topic all together! I ordered online, and no where on the site does it say how long it will take to ship....but it says the max is delivery after 30 days. After about 2 weeks I got a call from the shipping co., made an appt. for delivery. That morning they call...cant find your package, we'll call you back. 5 hours later I call and get, oh, yeah, we've got it, we can deliver it wed...ok, cancel a doctors appt, etc. they dont show. A wee bit of hell broke out between the delivery co. and me.

I called 4 diff numbers at cconly, none of their phone systems work. Found one I could leave a message. No one called back. Emailed me back the next day, however, saying if the delivery co couldnt find it by friday, theyd send another one...

Sooooo...I get the # for the director of the Baltimore hub, leave messages...this is life and death for my chickens, I NEED it now. So, after a whole ton of bs, the boss over at the Balt. hub finally found my boxes and brought them (an hour) to my house hinself...4 days after it was supposed to be delivered.

Pretty sure no one at CCOnly speaks fluent English...certainly not as a first language. DO I trust them? Nope. However, the delivery wasn't their fault...Ive dealt with that co. before and it was ok, not great, but ok. SOOOO...if you have a problem with your item, you're probably screwed, but they make some really great coops! There were a couple little things, that I may have called another co. about, but I knew there was no point calling them, so I just dealt with it.

Oh geez! Well, I ended up buying from them just because I couldn't find anything else close to as large for the price, and I was too worried about the hens pecking/killing each other if I didn't get a large enough coop. I got the CC-78-R2-H though. Hopefully, we don't have any problems so I don't have to deal with them! My husband is handy so I'm sure we can figure out whatever needs to be fixed with it anyway. I already plan on changing out all the latches/locks. I'm going to paint mine white with a navy door. :)
