How do I administer K1 to my chicken? She ate rat poison. I have it in a plastic syringe.

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry. I do not know what K1 is. But you can do an epsom flush to get rid of the poison. Take some warm water and epsom salts. You want to dissolve 1 teaspoon of epsoms in 1 ounce of water and syringe this down her throat. Do this very slowly so you don't aspirate her. Keep her head level and squeeze it onto the middle of the tongue. Head level, not down or up. Squeeze slowly.

I would shoot this down her beak every hour. No food for today. Just epsom salt. Epsom makes a good flush.

There is also a molasses flush as well. 1/4 cup of molasses to a gallon of water for one day.

Even charcoal tablets or even the charcoal you use in fish tanks. Anything to flush the system.

These are the things I would try if my bird ate this poison.

If she only ate a tint bit of it and you think it is in her crop, I would load up her crop with water and vomit her to get it out.

You might want to post this in our emergency section for more help with this...

Oh, I hope you can save her!

Could you phone a vet and ask? I wonder if the time period has already lapsed for how soon it should have been administered. Oh gee, now I'm worried myself. Hope she'll be okay

I am so sorry I never updated! My chicken made it with the K9 we got from our local vet. :)
